In Memory of Adele Howe
With deep sadness I have to pass on the news that Adele Howe passed away this Friday.
Adele was an influential AI researcher, with significant contributions in planning and scheduling.
She served JAIR for many years, on the editorial board, as an Associate Editor and, over the last few years, on the advisory board and as our Awards Chair. In her last role, which she shaped, she was responsible to bringing numerous high quality papers to JAIR.
Adele was a AAAI Fellow "for significant contributions to the theory, practice and evaluation of automated planning, scheduling and other AI technologies, as well as service to the AI community", she was the program co-chair of AAAI 2007 and ICAPS 2009, served on the AAAI executive council, and was recognized several times for her outstanding reviewing.
Adele was always a voice of conscience, quality, and diversity, both in JAIR and in the greater AI community. We will miss her greatly.
